A note about PowerBook G4 Titanium Hinges ñ
There is a common misconception about the durability of the original hinges in the Titanium PowerBooks. The truth of the matter is that the hinges are plenty strong when installed properly. We have been replacing Titanium PowerBook Hinges for eight years and helped develop the method of repair that yields the best result functionally and cosmetically. What we have seen over the years is the first step in hinge failure is that the bond between the hinge and the casing along the bottom comes loose. When this happens it puts undo pressure on the hinge and the hinge eventually fails.
The truth is that the glue used to bond the hinge to the casing is the weak link. If you install used hinges or new stainless steel hinges with the proper glue they will never break under normal use. We recommend 3M Scotch-Weld DP-810. On the flip side, if you install any hinge without the proper glue it will eventually fail or cause damage to your LCD, housing, or cables.
Installation - Due to the nature of this repair, we recommend having these hinges professionally installed.
